CVs that focus on the employers are rare. Often times, job seekers pack their CVs full with what they want and little or none of what the employers want. Of course, the predictable result is often failure to win interviews, and that means – no job. Follow these 5 steps to write powerful CVs that focus on the employer and help you generate endless interviews and ultimately get you your dream job!

Step #1: Identify the employer’s needs and problems

Employers always hire employees to solve their problems and meet their needs. To write an employer-centered CV, you must first identify their problems and needs. This you can do by looking at the job advertisement or ask the contact who told you of the job opening.

Step #2: Address the needs and problems

Once you have identified the needs and problems, address them. This will help you hold employers’ attention and get them interested in you. For example, if their problem is getting more share of the market, you can tell them you’ve got the skills and competence to help them make it happen.

Step #3: State similar problems you’ve solved in the past

If you’ve solved similar problems or met similar needs in the past in your prior workplace, go right ahead and state them under your work experience section. This will establish your competency as well make employers see you as the final solution they can’t afford to bypass.

Step #4: State the skills you possess to solve the problems and meet the needs

Highlight the skills you posses that you intend to use to solve problems and meet the needs. Do this under the special skills section. You can list the skills in bullets, skills like negotiating skills, leadership skills, marketing skills, communication skills, project management skills, and so on.

Step #5: Close strongly

Close strongly by including the awards and promotions you won at the tail end of your CV. This will drive your competency and credibility through the roof. Additionally, use three powerful referees to close strongly.
